Mobile Wedding DJ Or Band?: Planning Questions For Brides And Grooms

By Marissa Velazquez

An engagement is a big, important event in someone's life, and this goes double for the wedding itself. Sometimes the planning can be a lot of fun, but for some people it also creates a lot of stress. There are many questions that arise, including the number of people on the guest list, how to handle the food, and the eternal question: band or mobile wedding DJ?

Hire a wedding planner or plan the event yourself? There are a lot of things to consider when making this decision. If you have a large budget and plan on inviting a lot of people, it may make sense to hire someone to help out. However, if event planning is something you like to do, and you have the time to make the arrangements on your own, that might be the best decision. You could ask your friends to help, which could make the planning more fun.

How many people should I invite? Money is a big factor in deciding this question as well. It can get very complicated if you have a huge family but a limited budget. For a couple in this predicament, it might be a good idea to limit attendance to immediate family and very close friends.

Where should I have my ceremony and reception? Ask around and find out if anyone you know has access to a church or reception hall. Some churches may require that a couple undergo pre-marriage counseling before getting married in the church, so that is something to consider. If you are unable to find a good deal on a venue for the event, you might consider having it in someone's home or in a park, especially if the guest list is small.

How should I cater the event? This is another area with a lot of flexibility. Many people do choose to hire professional caterers. However, if your budget is tight, you could have a friend or relative do the cooking. You could also limit the menu to hors d'oeurves and drinks rather than a full meal.

Who should I have in my wedding party? This is another tough question, especially when you have a lot of siblings or cousins as well as close friends. Some couples end up limiting the party to one person each, rather than having a lot of people stand up and still risking hurt feelings of the people who are not included.

DJ or Band? This decision is influenced by the space in which the reception will take place, the type of music you prefer, and the kind of party you envision. Like everything else, it also concerns the budget.

If you are friends with someone who plays in a band or who is a mobile wedding dj, you may be able to cut a deal regarding the music for your ceremony. Like most things, planning a wedding is harder and more stressful when it is left to the last minute. Make sure that you begin your planning as soon as possibler. This way, you can remember the process of planning the event as fondly as you remember the event itself.
